Muscadines are thick skinned grapes native to the northeast. They are the state fruit of North Carolina, and are in season from September through October. The grapes shown here are the black variety.
Muscadines are an “old” variety of grape, so they have seeds and the skins aren’t very pleasant to eat raw. The best way to enjoy them is roasted or in a cooked dish.
